Incite-FocusIncite Focus 5555 Conner St, Detroit, MI 48213 (map)

Incite Focus is a world-recognized, state-of-the-art production and training lab focused on the relationships between digital fabrication, permaculture, experiential learning, and appropriate technology. It is a key fabrication lab to combine these four areas of interest, which provides a holistic approach to sustainable community building. Incite Focus serves a community of thinkers and doers from students as young as 14 years of age, to young adults, to the neighborhood community group. It is a collaborative learning space where concepts and ideas are realized through technologies that give its users the capacity to create personal, household, community, commercial and industrial products using best-practices.

On Thursday a light meal will be provided after the tours.

From Friday through Sunday mid-day, we will provide vegan meals on site. There will be a continental breakfast with baked goods from Avalon Bakery available in the mornings. Delicious lunches and dinners will be provided by three small local caterers: Nandi’s Knowledge Cafe, Guerrilla Food and Under the Rainbow Catering.

We are asking folks for a donation of $5-10 for lunch and dinners to defray the cost of the food. So if you’re staying for the whole conference a donation of $25 would be great – that’s for 8 meals. No one will be turned away if they can’t afford a donation though.

Minimal waste event

In an effort to create a culture of far less waste, we encourage conference attenders to bring their own bottle/cup for hot or cold drinks, eating utensils, a cloth napkin, and a plate and bowl. If this is impossible, we offer a few options: 1) Purchase a lightweight, reusable wooden plate, spoon, fork, and cloth napkin set for $10 from Homespun Hustle, a Detroit micro-enterprise; 2) If $10 is out of range, RENT the wooden dinnerware set for $1/day; 3) paper and plastic ware will be available as a final resort. We will have soapy wash basins and towels for cleaning your reusables after meals. Thank you for your extra effort in reducing our carbon footprint, taking a load off our landfills, and supporting local and handmade goods!
